Earlier this month, our founder Frank had the honour of visiting the Embassy of Kazakhstan in London, where he was warmly welcomed by His Excellency Magzhan Ilyassov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting was a proud moment for everyone involved with Combe Hay Mares Milk. Kazakhstan is widely recognised as the ancestral home of mare’s milk, or kumis—a traditional, fermented dairy drink that has been consumed by nomadic peoples on the Central Asian steppes for thousands of years. As a British business helping to bring this extraordinary natural product to a new audience, we were delighted to receive this invitation to strengthen ties with its country of origin.
During their conversation, Frank and Ambassador Ilyassov discussed the cultural heritage and health benefits of mare’s milk, as well as the growing interest in natural wellness products in the UK and Europe. Frank shared how Combe Hay Mares Milk is working to raise awareness of this unique drink and its nutritional profile, which includes natural probiotics, immune-boosting compounds, and an impressive vitamin and mineral content.
There was also an engaging discussion around trade, ethical sourcing, and how the traditions of Kazakh nomadic farming can be celebrated and respected as demand for mare’s milk products grows internationally.
“It was a real privilege to meet His Excellency and talk about the future of mare’s milk,” said Frank after the meeting. “Kazakhstan has a rich and proud history with this product, and we want to honour that as we continue our mission. It’s about more than just health—it’s about connection, culture, and sustainability.”
We’re incredibly grateful to Ambassador Ilyassov for his time, hospitality, and support. It’s moments like these that reaffirm our belief in what we do, and inspire us to keep sharing the story of mare’s milk with the world!
